I have XP SP1 and a Windows CD to upgrade to SP2. This will ask me for my
computer name and password. Where do I find this name? Is the 'password'
the same password as the one I use when starting my PC? If not, where do I
find that? Thanks

Nope. when you install SP2 your user name and password are not changed...
all it will do is update your system

What kind of CD is this?

This doesn't make sense. What kind of CD do you have and what exactly
are you trying to do? SP2 is installed from within Windows and it sounds
like you've got hold of an operating system install disk that includes
SP2. Do you want to reinstall Windows?

Thanks, guys. I said I have a Windows SP2 CD. I ordered this from
Microsoft some time ago. I have been perfectly happy with SP1. I am now
thinking of installing SP2. Prior to doing so, I thought it prudent to
research what the install would look like on the screen. So I accessed a
web site that provides such a tutorial, page by page. It said I would be
asked, near the end, for the computer name and the password.

Since you didn't give the URL for the website where you read this, I
can't be sure but it sounds like you were reading about reinstalling
Windows, not installing SP2. You will not be asked to provide a
computer/username/password when you install SP2. Here are links that
will help you install SP2:
