XP and Vista USB flash memory device compatability

I recently put some files on a USB flash memory device using my Vista
machine. XP read the device correctly prior to placing files on the device
w/ Vista, now the device is not even recognized by the XP machine. Any work
arounds for this?

Very often its best to wait until version 2 of any MS OS is available
before depending on it...
