When I try to run an audio file, Windows Media Player accesses the internet
instead of running the audio file. In the options menu, I found the option
"access internet for license" and then unchecked it but the problem persists.

Try creating a new playlist in WMP file tab,or R.click the file, create a
shortcut
to desktop,R.click, select "open with" choose WMP.

Click on Tools > Options > File Types [tab]. From the File Types list, select
which type file(s) you want to have WMP act as the default player.

You may have to close and then reopen WMP to effect the change.
