This was downloaded and i had to REMOVE IT it took almost an hour to download
in the first place.
it slowed my computer down so much, everything was taking ages to load up
web pages etc and my start up went from 30 seconds to almost 2 minutes

If anyone knows a way round this could you please tell me before i go back
to XP.

whats with all these problems with Vista ? i am very much thinking of going
back to XP and getting my money back
i can not think of any security update with XP that slowed down my pc to
almost a stop

yes i did give it time to install etc..

and yes my Vista is real brought and paid for

and yes its nothing to do with my Service provider my internet connection is
fine and Fast.

Carey,

Other than download time and a large file on my hard drive, is there
any difference between installing Vista SP-1 using Microsoft Update
(~66 MB file) or downloading, saving, then installing the full
download file (~434 MB)?

I ask because due to my broadband speed, even the 66 MB Microsoft
Update file will be difficult, but I can d/l the huge file at a
different, faster location, then bring it to my system at home for
installation.

What do you think? Will the huge download file work, or am I asking
for trouble? Thanks.

Actually, it is much better to use Windows Update to obtain SP1.

1) Windows Update will scan and offer any updated drivers that are
recommended prior to installing the SP. It is safer/better for most people
to use Windows Update.

2) The update is typically 65 MB or a little bit more, whereas the full
download link is much larger (434 MB). Windows Update downloads a special
compressed format, but it builds up a FULL copy on your hard disk just
exactly like the standalone download before beginning the install process.
So in effect, the actual SP install works the same.

if you want to learn more about the binary delta compression utilized by
Windows Update.

I tried both methods of installing SP1 and the Windows Update
method is definitely quicker.
