Seeking a utility that would permit me to cut-out a portion of a Windows
Media player file. The simpler the utility the better.

The Windows Media File Editor that's included in the Windows Media Encoder
download is probably the simplest one I'm aware of.

Windows Movie Maker is also pretty easy to use here, to me.

Is it on the Start menu? I don't see it!

Windows Movie Maker is part of the Premium / Ultimate SKUs, if I recall
correctly.

Windows Media Encoder is a separate (free) download from the Microsoft web
site.
