Wordpad not opening a .rtf fille when the file is double clicked...

WinXP serv pack 3: My Wordpad will directly open a given .rtf file from &quotFile open&quot in the Wordpad program but after setting the default file options in Control Panel and then double clicking on the same .rtf file, I get &quot... the xx.rtf file is not a
valid Win32 application.&quot Any suggestions?
