Operating System: Windows 2000 Pro Service Pack 4
RAM is now 512MB
Okay, I receive a Error Message stating that "There is not enough memory to
run Word" so I took the computer in to have more RAM installed. Increased it
from 128MB to 512MB by removing old 128MB card and installed 2 - 256MB cards
for a new total of 512MB. Tried to open Word and received the same Error
message. The computer shop told me to un-install Office and then re-install.
The un-installed seemed to work fine, but now when I try to install Office
2002, I just get a quick flash of the Windows Installer and then absolutely
nothing happens. I then tried to download nad install the Windows Installer
Cleanup Utility, but the samething happens and it doesn't install. Troed in
"Safe Mode" and that doesn't work either. I am logged onto to computer as
"Administrator". Very confused??? Please provide any assistance. Thanks....

Try to run msicuu2.exe
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kben-us290301).
If this does not help then an MS Office newsgroup would be a far
better place to post your question.

Hi Pegasus Thanks for the reply. I can't run msicuu2.exe as it won't install
either. This is not an Office install problem as it won't run any install
program including msicuu2.exe. Any other ideas? Thanks...

When you run msicuu2.exe, is the error message "...not enough memory"?
If so then one of the following links might help. I have never tried them
myself - I only collected them.

- Often resolved by re-applying the latest service pack
- Sometimes caused by NAV or IBM AV:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kben-us177078
- Set HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\
parameter\IRPStackSize to 15..21 decimal
- Sometimes requires server service configuration and tuning
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb[LN]128167
- PoolUsageMaximum set too low:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kbEN-US304101

Thanks Pegasus. No it isn't an error message about "not enough memory" when I
try to run msicuu2.exe. That was when I tried to open Word. Now when I try to
install msicuu2.exe or Office 2002, I just get a quick flash of the "Windows
Installer" po-up and then completely nothing happens. Sorry if I am confusing
in my description, but I am telling you exactly what I see happening....

You must run msicuu2.exe from a Command Prompt so that
you can see the error message(s)!

I rebooted the computer into "Safe Mode with command Prompt" and then ran
typed msicuu2 at the DOS Prompt. The Windows Installer pop-up came up and
then the Error Message stated: " The Windows Installer Service could not be
accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the
Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel
for assistance." Doesn't installhere either. What do you suggest as the next
step? Thanks....

You could try re-installing the Windows Installer:

Hi Pegasus Yes, Priviously I was able to download and install Windows
Installer 3.1 Redistributable (V2). It was one install that did work.
Anything else.

Hi Pegasus I was able to fix the problem by using "ConfigSafe" and
"Restoring" back to Jan. 01, 2008. Now I am able to install programs and all
is working just fine. Thanks for all your replies. You can consider this
problem as solved.....

I know you've got around this now by restoring an earlier configuration,
but just a comment as I was following this thread out of interest to see
what the solution was:

Pegasus had suggested that you run msicuu2 from a Command Prompt but
didn't say anything about using Safe Mode as you elected to do. The
error message you got implies that it cannot be run in Safe Mode. It
would have been logical then to reboot normally, open a command window
from there and then run it.

Any messages you got at that point might have told you a lot about what
the problem was and perhaps allowed you to avoid a repeat. As it is, if
it happens again you'll be back to square one.
