I have been having a problem when I go to START-PROGRAMS I cannot right click
to sort by name or even right click on an app to create shortcuts.

Does anyone have an easy fix for this other than re-imaging the system to
factory?

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers:

Hi DMRS22,

Control Panel (Classic View) > Taskbar and Start Menu > Start Menu tab

dropping" is checked.

Try,
Line 56 right side, "enable right click content menu"

This helped me to a point - THANK YOU. I am able to now RT click on the app
and the Short Cut Menu pops up so I am able to now put a shortcut on the
desktop.

What setting am I missing that the Short Cut Menu isn't showing up when I RT
Click on the Program menu (START-PROGRAM then RT click in a blank area) to
sort the Program Menu List by Name?

You're welcome.

I have just tried what you have described and I beleive this is by
design because when I right-click in a blank area in the "All Programs"
list for the Start Menu then nothing happens (no context menu /
right-click menu).

It's not by design since I was able to Rt Click in the area & sort by name
(all the folders & apps listed in the Program pop-up list) and all of a
sudden that & the other shortcut menu when rt clicking on the app itself
within a folder of the Program menu, stopped working. Your suggestion fixed
the problem to rt click on the app & get the shortcut menu to pop-up so I can
create Shortcuts to the desktop, but the Rt Click in the Program list to sort
by name just flashes quickly & the shortcut menu never shows up like it did
before. This is really strange. I cannot even think of how to look up this
problem on Microsoft's knowledgebase & they want to charge me to send an
email to ask them how to fix this. This is why I am using this forum. It's
been driving me nuts and I know it's just a setting somewhere in the OS
settings! LOL
If by chance you figure it out, let me know.

OK I fully understand your problem now, sorry about the confusion. Take
a look at this article and see if it helps.

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers

I would use ShellEXView which can be found from the article above and
disable all context menu handles that are not Microsofts and see if
this problem still exists. If the problem does not occur then enable
one context menu handler and try the the right-click until the problem
is found.
