WinXP Pro Logon Screen

When I start this particular WinXP Pro SP2 system I get a dialog box for
logging on (User Name and Password) instead of the User Account Icons.
There are two Users beside Guest and Administrator.

How can I fix it so that the Icons appear instead of the dialog box.

Hi D.Duck,

If your PC has not been joined to a Domain, try this......

Open the User Accounts applet in Control Panel, click on the "Change the way
users log on or off" link under "Pick a task...", click in the checkbox
beside "Use the Welcome screen" to select it (and click in the checkbox
beside "Use Fast User Switching" to select it if desired) then click on Apply
Options button.

Note, if by Administrator you mean you are using the built in Administrator
account by that name, that's not good practice. If something damages that
account you won't be able to login with an account that has admin
privileges. So it's best to create another account with admin level
privileges and name it something other than Administrator. When you do the
built in Administrator account will be hidden from the Welcome Screen. To
access it in XP Pro from the Welcome Screen do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the
classic login dialog box. Type in Administrator for the user name and it's
password.

For XP Home start in Safe Mode. Administrator will appear on the Welcome
Screen.

Once you have created a new admin level account login to it at least once.
Then you can copy the data and settings from the Administrator account to
the new account. See these links:

Are you talking about the built in "Guest" account? If so and you are not
in a network setting, i.e. this is a stand alone machine, then don't use the
Guest account. Disable it through the user account applet in the control
panel. Create another limited account, name it something like Visitor, and
use that account for casual users.
