I have a Toshiba laptop about 2 years old running XP SP2 it has been working
OK until recently, I tried downloading a new driver from Realtek for the
internal sould card and subsequent to that it locks up on the "welcome"
screen.
I have put the machine into "Safe" mode and gone to diagnostic mode. It
boots satisfactorially after that to the desktop, but of course much of my
computer is unreachable due to the lack of services.
I am able to allow all services to start, without any of the Startup and
that seems to get into the desktop display also. However, after a brief
period I will get a message that says "Updates are available for your
computer" and the machine locks up.
What should I do to find out what got screwed up by the driver?
