Hi I need to get a the service pack 1a before I am able to connect to the
internet. How can I obtain service pack 1a without being connected to the
internet myself?

First off - you want Service Pack 2 - not 1a. 1a is WAY old - not that
service pack 2 is much better at this point in age - but the security
enhancements alone make it better.

As for the second part of your question, you are connected to the Internet
or you have a new way of posting I do not understand.

Direct Download of Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows XP

Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD

I don't know why you want SP1a as SP2 is available but I suspect you have
your reasons. You can find SP1a here
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp1/network.mspx click
the tiny "Go" button on the right side of the page. You can download it
using another system, burn the downloaded .exe file to CD or onto a usb
drive and then install it on your system.

If you want SP2 you can get it here

Internet cafe possibly? At work, possibly?

It does not matter - they have the connection. Beg, buy, borrow or steal -
here they are on the Internet - and if they can post to the newsgroup - they
can likely do one of the two solutions given.

Regardless, the suggestion is to download the stand-alone installer for SP2.
You don't even *want* SP1. If you can't do that directly from your machine,
you'll need to use another machine. Or, order the CD from Microsoft.

Know anyone with a high-speed connection, who maybe hangs out or works at an
internet cafe? Any of them could download the SP2 installer and burn it to
CD for you. You can then just run the installer from CD and you'll be off.

This will probably be the fastest and cheapest way to do this; it may cost
you under $5 for the disk and their time.

Incidentally, unless you're forced to use some specific software that
absolutely has to have SP1a, there's no real reason that the original XP
can't connect to the internet so you can download this directly.
