Windows XP search does not work at all - tried everything!

iexplorer0726

First off, I've tried every suggestion on every forum for this. Second,
this has nothing to do with searching for "a word or phrase". *I can't
search at all*.

If I right-click Start and go to Search, this is all I see (view
attachment below).

I can't access Search from anywhere on Windows.

This already existed in my registry:

Code:
--------------------

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{e17d4fc0-5564-11d1-83f2-00a0c90dc849}]
@="Search Results Folder"
"Search Results Folder"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{e17d4fc0-5564-11d1-83f2-00a0c90dc849}\Search Results Folder]

--------------------

I already tried running these two different commands (and restarting
XP):

Code:
--------------------

regsvr32 /i %systemroot%\srchasst\srchui.d*ll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

--------------------

I already tried reinstalling Srchasst.inf. It asked for the Windows XP
CD (looking for MSGR3EN.DLL). I pointed it to the file in the \I386\
folder on the CD, and it failed with the error "Installation failed". I
tried downloading MSGR3EN.DLL from dlldump and putting it on my desktop,
same error. (If I could figure this out, maybe that would solve
everything...)

I tried creating this entry (and restarting XP):

Code:
--------------------

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoFind"=dword:00000000

--------------------

The techarena.in site asks for username and password.

>> regsvr32 /i %systemroot%\srchasst\srchui.d*ll

The correct command is:

regsvr32 /i "%systemroot%\srchasst\srchui.dll"

Also, you should see the following message after entering the above command:

---------------------------
RegSvr32
---------------------------
DllRegisterServer and DllInstall in C:\WINDOWS\srchasst\srchui.dll succeeded.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

If you receive any other error, post back the details.

Then, run these two commands:

regsvr32 jscript.dll

Press {ENTER}

regsvr32 vbscript.dll

Press {ENTER}

Here's the photobucket link. It's just a blank window, no titlebar text,
no text anywhere.

That was the command I originally ran (mistyped here), and I got that
success message. I had also run those other commands as well and got
the success messages. That did nothing for me.

I'll try the methods from that Microsoft article.

>> What is left?

As a workaround, you may use Classic search (Windows 2000 style).

None of the suggestions worked. The three commands registered the files
successfully. I verified the entries in regedit.

What is left?
