Windows XP Pro SP3, OEM in Dell D600 "not responding" on every item, every time, every window

My DELL D600 has OEM Windows XP Pro SP3, and all or most netframeworks suddenly began NOT RESPONDING every single time. I don't know what has gone wrong, it's driving me nuts. I can't afford to upgrade.


I tried the online Microsoft fixit, no luck.


I uninstalled a few programs, thinking maybe it's too full. Still no luck.


Every time I have to use any folder window, or any file item at all, the same thing happens, each and every time. "Not responding" delay on the window or desktop containing the item. Have to hit Ctl-Alt-Delete at least twice, if not 3-4 times. Each such "seizure" lasts for a count of at least 26, and often much longer. Basically makes Windows not very functional.


I have two OEMs for Dell, not sure which one I put in here (wondering if I should repair-instal Windows), but worried about destroying my Desktop Server installations which have 3 WordPress developments underway. I can't afford to wreck them.


Any ideas to FIX this will be much appreciated.
