Why does windows XP launch multiple sessions of explorer.exe?
I have seen 12 sessions of explorer.exe running at the same time and using up most of the memory. There have been times where the computer is not responsive such that I had to power down and restart. To prevent this from happening, I monitor the Task Manager and end one or more explorer.exe processes.
What is using explorer.exe? How can I determine which programs may have launched a explorer.exe session?
Microsoft Essential did find a virus: DOS/Rovnix.T and Win32/Rovinxgem!B and cleaned them. I also load a trial version of AVG which found some other issues and cleaned them. However, the multiple sessions of explorer.exe is still a problem. BTW start up is very slow especially with AVG and Essentials running, so I disable AVG to function.
Windows XP updates are loaded as Microsoft determines.
Does anyone know exactly what the issue is and how to correct this?
Thanks
