I do NOT have a Windows CD; the computer came with all the Windows .cab files
on my harddrive.

I want to install the Microsoft backup programme but can't find the
ntbackup.msi file in those files.

How do I do it?

You can download a copy from this web site.

Installing the Backup Program on the Home Version
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/windowsxp_tips.htm#backup_home

Direct download of ntbackup.msi.
http://home.comcast.net/~cerelli/ntbackup.msi

While the Windows Backup program does an acceptable job backing
up selected files and folders, you might want to consider using
an imaging program such as Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost
if you're planning on backing up the entire contents of your hard drive.

Good luck
