Windows XP Crashes After Changing D Drive

I have swappable hard drive enclosures on my AMD 3.0 gig system. I pulled out
the D drive today (computer was off) in order to test another hard drive. The
computer would not boot up normally, and gave me the screen to select safe
mode, etc. I chose safe mode, then shut down. I put the original D drive back
in, but have had nothing but problems since. I did manage to get it to boot
up normally after choosing the restore to previous configuration. I can now
get it to work - more or less. I am using it now to access this forum.
However, I cannot use my Outlook 2000 nnow - every time I try to use it, the
computer crashes, and I have to re-boot multiple times to get it back to
where I can use it. What do I need to do to get this thing back to normal?
Format/reload? Am I unable to use a different D drive with Windows XP? What
if I have to replace the D drive? Is it normal for XP to freak out like this
if a different D drive than the original is used. This has me really upset.
If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Rod Shelley
