Have a Dell with WinXP SP2. Upon bootup, I get the screen that asks to
boot Windows normally, Safe boot, or Last Known Configuration. No matter
which one I choose, Windows will start to load and after a few seconds a
blue screen with some error message flashes just for the briefest instant and
then the machine reboots. The blue screen does not stay on long enough to
read.
What are my first steps to correct this problem?

what you might try is
to go to the dell
website where you
can look up faq's
about this issue and
or post this issue
again on the dell
newsgroup/forum
that can also be
found at the dell
website.

if however, you had
a regular windows
installation cd, then
you could go into
the recovery console
and run a couple of
commands at the disk
prompt.

but double check at
dell first to see how
they are prepared to
resolve the issue.

btw: "avoid" the method
of "factory restore" if it
is their only solution.

When the menu appears, have you tried selecting "Disable automatic restart on
system failure"? If you can select this option you should be able to see what
the error message is on the blue screen. Once you have that information, you can
start your troubleshooting at this web site.
