Okay, So I Finally Ended My Microsoft Boycott Of Windows Vista Service Pack
One RTM And Returned 2 It Yesterday Night, And Now I Am Wondering Exactly
What Was I Thinking (As Windows Vista Service Pack One Is A Whole Lot Slower
Than Open Source Linux Ubuntu 7.10 RTW, Open Source Linux Ubuntu 8.04 Long
Term Support Official Beta Refresh, And Microsoft Windows Server 2008 RTM),
Just FYI. I Think That Frank, Bill Yanyire, The MS-MVP's, And Microsoft
Itself Needs A Major Wake Up Call Regarding Windows Vista Service Pack One,
As It's Much Slower Than The Other 3 Mentioned Operating Systems Combined,
Just FYI. All Sold Copies Of Windows Vista Needs 2 Be Recalled, Before It
Does Some Kind Of Major Destruction 2 Some Large Corporation's Computer
Networks, Also Just FYI.

We all know what you were thinking - Nothing. Why do you think that Vista
is slower than that Piece Of Crap OS called Ubuntu? What kind of testing
did you do? Can you explain how you came to that conclusion, or are you
just talking out of your A$$.

Microsoft could care less what you think about Vista and so could Frank,
myself, the other MVP's here. Why not post about the upcoming weather in
your area?

You really need some time away from your computer.

Are you for real? Seriously, you make some really ridiculous posts to these
forums.

Just move on over to Ubuntu, and their forums!
There are many, running Vista, SP1, with no issue, and actually like it.
Just because you can't seem to get a handle on it, you think it needs to be
recalled or something?

Granted, Vista is not for everyone, just as Ubuntu is not going to be for
everyone.
I personally, am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit, and happen to like it, it
works for me and what I do very, very well.
But because it does, I am not going to state that is should run great for
everyone and do everything they need to do. There is no one size fits all
here, that is why we have choices, and why that is a good thing.

Do yourself a favor, make a choice , and move on. But don't make posts on
the pretense, that you are speaking for all of us that are using Vista. If
you want to complain to MS, about your displeasure with Vista, or any of
their other software, go to their website and find the appropriate channel
to send it through - you do realize, here on this newsgroup, it is just a
peer to peer newsgroup right? And most folks, that read your post, aren't
going to give a rat's a&^ about how you feel?

If Vista was in that bad a shape, folks wouldn't be buying it, and MS would
be scrambling to do something about it.

So make a choice, decide what works as best for you as you can get, and go
with it. No OS is perfect, no computer program is. We just have to make the
best, on what we decide fits our needs.

Well, I'd consider it in bad shape when a developer who has spent 10
years of his life writing nothing but software for windows and who
couldn't give a rats ass about linux now uses linux nearly exclusively.
Namely myself...

Now granted, it primarily is advances that linux has made in the past
12-18 months that receive a lot of credit for that, but it's vista that
deserves the credit for being the trigger.

Vista is the first MS OS I did not and as of this day simply don't want.

DOS->Win95 I happily upgraded.

Win98->Win2k I happy upgraded.

Win2k->XP I paused simply only due to the fact that, pre-SP2, the only
thing it offered over Win2k was a childish color scheme until MS forced
me to upgrade by making Visual Studio 2003 XP only. However, I never
actually had any problem with XP other than it's childish color scheme
and I think many would probably not disagree on that. Over Win98/ME
though, which was probably the case for the general majority, XP was
definitely the way to go.

Vista though? I mean, why? The only thing it offers over XP is to be a
royal pain in my ass. And yes, I've had it installed and used it. It
seems many people I meet also don't particularly care of it. Come to
think of it, aside from people in this NG, I've yet to find someone that
actually likes it.

Ironically, the other week, we had a MS Consultant in our office. I
chatted with him for a while and we started chatting about my new system
and the new severs I put up, all linux based and how many machines in the
office are going to be converted to linux systems in the future.

His response? He fully agreed with me, saying himself that when he wants
systems that are trouble free he prefers linux. Yup, this is coming from
a MS consultant.

Yes MS is selling Vista but is that really an accomplishment? I don't
think so for the simple reason that it's going to come bundled with every
PC whether people like it or not. People don't go out and buy "Vista",
they go out and buy a Desktop/Laptop. It happens to have Vista on it. In
many cases, if you want XP, you have to explicitly ask for it and the
model selection available with XP may be limited and may not match the
users needs as far as hardware goes. So seriously, how much of an
accomplishment any number of licenses sold when ultimately, there isn't
much of a choice? It's kind of like a gas station bragging about the
gallons of fuel sold...well no shit, people need fuel...they're going to
buy it whether they like it or not...

Also the statement floating around that now supposedly there will be
another windows release in a year makes it seem to me that Microsoft is
scrambling to do something about it. I have my doubts that it's actually
going to happen but...

So do I think Vista is doing good? Nope I don't. Of course, this is all
just my opinion and in the grand scheme of things my opinion isn't worth
two shits. Only time will tell how things are going to turn out.

What I'd like to see, which of course is never going to happen, is that
every machine be sold without an OS. No pre-installed Linux, no pre-
installed Windows, no pre-installed MacOS. All machines sold clean and
the OS then bought and installed by the User.

I'd love to see how Vista would fare in *that* scenario because really,
that's the only way to compare apples to apples as it puts all OS' equal
to each other. The user truly is the one who makes the choice in that
case.

Note to various assorted fanboys: Don't even bother responding unless
you've got something intelligent to contribute.

Just FYI, My Doctor Said That I Need More Pills. Just FYI. I Can't Figure
Out How To Use The Computer Once I Do An Install. Just FYI. I Look At The

Ubuntu, Vista, Windows 2008 Server. Just FYI

I Say Just FYI Because Some People Don't Know That Posts Are For Their

Actually, I Think My Brothers Ford Needs To Be Recalled. Just FYI. He

That will never happen because the vast majority of people don't know how to
partition drives and install OSes. Nor do they need to know how, any more
than they need to know how to install plumbing and wiring in a new house
because it came "clean" so they could choose their own plumbing and wiring.

What a dumb idea.

Even at that, I'm certain most would still choose Windows because - for
better or for worse - it's what they know, it's what they use at work, and
it's what runs the software they already own and know. After all, it's all
about the apps you ant to run. You don't choose an OS then go looking for
apps. Well, normal people don't.

People don't want to buy and learn something different because of the
learning curve needed. Just like no one buys a book titled "How to speak
French" that is written in Japanese when all you speak is Spanish - too many
obstacles to overcome at once.

I Am A Retard, Just FYI

What I Was Thinking Was That I Am A Retard. Just FYI. I Like To Install

I Then Can't Figure Out What To Do With My Computer So I Cry And Wet Myself
And Install Vista. Just FYI. Then I Install SP1. Just FYI.

I Then Start All Over. Just FYI.

I Need To Take My Medication. The Doctor Says That I Am A Right Wing Nut
Job. Just FYI. I Wonder What Happened To Ron Paul? Just FYI

The comments I want to make are the same comments I have always made. If
you like and/or prefer Linux then you should use Linux and not be ostracized
for doing so. If you prefer Windows you should use Windows and not be
ridiculed for doing so.
It is a matter of personal choice and personal choices should be
respected. There is no need for a Windows user to troll the Linux discussion
groups and there is no need for a Linux user to troll the Microsoft and/or
Windows discussion groups.
There is absolutely no reason to cite data comparing the two operating
systems when it is done solely for the purpose of causing heated
discussions. There is no legitimate reason for name calling between the two
user groups.
I prefer Windows over Linux. For those people who prefer Linux I am
happy for them and glad that they are satisfied with Linux. I hope their
machines perform well for them and if they have problems I hope they get
help in solving them.

C.B.
