Hey there!

When I tried to install Vista Service Pack 1, it gave me an internal error. I went to the web link provided there, and done all the necessary steps except Windows Update. The computer I want to install service pack 1 onto, is not connected to the internet. So I downloaded the full service pack, and tried to install it there, but now it seems that it needs additional updates from Windows Update. Can anyone please provide me with a list of updates needed on that computer to allow Service Pack 1 to be installed, and then I could download them manually.

Thanx!

Hey there Doofy,

I don't recall there being any updates required as a prerequisite to install
SP1, however, there may be some additional files needed for it to perform the
installation from the internet. It's a process that they call bootstrapping.
I would connect the machine to the internet and then apply the downloaded
SP1.

Let me know how it goes!

Best Regards,

Will

Hey William

You see, I can`t connect that particular PC to the internet cause it is at
my father`s house and he don`t have internet.
Microsoft states at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947366/en-us "Windows
Update can also detect a Failed Service Pack install from a known servicing
issue. Microsoft has developed a tool that will resolve this issue. This
tool will be offered by using Windows Update." What if I don`t have
Internet? Can I download that tool manually?

Thanx Will!

Hey there Doofy,

As far as I can tell, the tool unfortunately is not downloadable. Is there
any way that you can get the machine to a location where internet is
available?

The other thing to consider is this. If the machine is off of the internet,
there really isn't any worry about receiving exploits or viruses from the
outside. Unless you're experiencing performance issues that are detrimental
to the operation of the machine, I wouldn't consider the update to be
priority. Once internet becomes available however, then you'll want to get
the updates done.

Best Regards,

Will

Hey there Doofy,

The short answer would be no, the tool is not available to download to my
knowledge.

So what you say is I can`t install SP1 on that PC? That sucks, I mean
Microsoft creates a full copy of SP1 but it doesn`t work....

But thanks for your trouble.

What you may want to do is gather as much technical specifications of
the computer as you can (motherboard, graphics card, etc) and any other
attached hardware such as printer and scanners. From there, you can
download the most up-to-date Vista drives that are available and install
those first, as these may be causing a problem with the SP1
installation.

If you are using a name-brand computer, like Dell or HP, then go to
their respective websites to download Vista drivers for your particular
model.

Once you have done this, try the SP1 installation again.

I contacted Microsoft, they suggested it is a Operating System error and to
call Customer Service to obtain a new DVD.
