Hi

I have never been able to play any of my dvd movies on my computer since
new, which is from May 07. I get a DVD Error saying windows media centre
cannot play this DVD because the disc prohibits playback in your region of
the world. You must obtain a disc that is inteded for your geographic region.
I live in New Zealand and can play all my dvd movies on my stand alone dvd
player.

God I just don't understand why this is happening, I was told when I brought
this machine I can play my movies on it..........

Please can any one help me.....

Cheers

The link talks about the DVD player, commercial DVD and the Region Code. The
code has to match, before the DVD player will play the DVD, which you can
set the DVD to code. You had better know what the DVD disc code is for all
your disc, because you only have a couple of times to change the code on the
player.

Thanks for that I have just worked that out and I now have one movie playing
but when I load in another ...I now get this message:- Media Centre has
stopped working ...window collecting information about problem...then next
message is ....A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available but
it just hangs there.

I have no idea why this is or is it that the dvd of vista won't allow some
dvd to play on them??????

Any help would be great.

Again, the operating system has nothing to do with the region codes. The DVD
player is hard coded to allow it to have it's region changed 4 times.
Whatever the region is set for after the 4th change is where it will
remain - unless you send the player/drive back to the manufacturer to have
it zeroed out.

The DVD player manufacturers had to go along with this due to the MPA
(motion picture association) demands. The manufacturers had no choice in the
matter.

My computer a HP dv9000 came with DVD software from the computer
manufacture. Doesn't your computer have such DVD software too, where you can
use it and not use Windows Media DVD player software?
