Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 UPGRADE - Error 0x80073712

I tried to install the Service Pack many times.

However, I always got the same error # 0x80073712 (or # 80073712).

I followed the suggested steps on the page
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947366. I passed all tests but the third one.
There, they suggested to use the CMD command: sfc /scannow. Using it, I get a
message saying that some errors could not be fixed. They could be seen in
the CBS.log file. However, I could not find any "light" inside the file
(incomprehensible ). Even after pausing/stopping my antivirus (Kaspersky),
fifth step, I could not get better result as the aforementioned web page
suggested. Using, or even unistalling, the UNIBLUE REGISTRY BOOSTER 2 did not
work.
Computer: Windows Vista Home Premium, 32 bits, AMD ATHLON 64 Dual Core
Processor, 3600+, speed: 1,90 GHz, memory: 3,198 GB (in fact, 4 GB, but
Windows Vista 32 bits do not recognize it - no more than 3 GB).
All my softwares are legal (registered).
Can anybody help?

I am trying the TaurArian suggestion on the page:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821. I am downloading I file from there.
I hope this works.

To PA Bear: Windows Update is constantly offering me the SP1 update. That is
why I started trying to do it.

Actually, your use of <spit> Uniblue Registry Booster might be the cause of
all your problems!

Think your Registry needs "cleaning" or "repairing"? Read
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions.

I am having the same problem. Same error code. I have run all of the tests
that MS suggests. Followed all of the pre installation instructions. Run
every test, installed the hotfixes recommended in these posts and still have
the same error code.
One of the posts recomended deleting a file in winsxs. That file does not
exist on my computer.
I have not installed or run any aftermarket reg cleaners.
My OS is Vista Ultimate x64 on a HP Pavillion DV9500 with Intel Core 2 duo
and 4 gig Ram, Dual Drives 1@100G and 1@320G

Perhaps you problem isn't the same -

The "Windows Features" dialog box is empty in Windows Vista, or you receive an error
message that includes the following code when you try to use Windows Update: "0x80073712"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931712

Thanks for the reply.
My windows features box is not empty.
I did a lot more trouble shooting last night and this is what I know.
I have run all of the tests listed at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947366
and all pass.
I have installed the windows update agent and it reports all pass. But upon
further investigation I looked up the report that it generated and find the
following errors.

(f) Registry

The update that this refers to is showing as installed on my computer and is
an update that is not removeable. (thought I could uninstall and reinstall it)
Any ideas?
