Windows Vista, can't receive updates

I can't receive Windows Vista updates on my Dell PC. My settings indicate I have automatic updater on but then I don't get the updates. My setting indicate I am able to receieve the updates (Updater is turned on) but when I go to MS Updater, my PC says
to NEVER update. I have tried everything to correct this and can't.
