Windows Updates not installing

I have a Toshiba Notebook that I ran the recovery disk to reset the factory
setting which included XP Home. I can go to Windows Update and download and
install all the updates.

However I need IIS so I updated to XP Pro. But I keep on getting
installation failures for every patch I download from the Windows Update
site. I have now gone back to scratch 5 times to try to resolve this issue,
but each time I get the same result. I am doing a straight XP Pro upgrade,
not custom, and I turned off Nortons to no avail.

Why does XP Home updates go smoothly while XP Pro fails every time? Can
anyone help me?

I had the same problem and for some reason (it was working before) Norton
decided to "block" the Windows update program......check out your firewall
I have Norton 360 and went to "advanced settings" then to "FIREWALL" then to
FIRWALL PROCTECTION SETTINGS in there check the list to see if your updater
is blocked.

I had the same problem with a Toshiba notebook and this corrected the
problem

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation
