When I click on Windows or Microsoft Update I get the following message:

Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site.
This website is designed to work with Microsoft Windows operating systems
only.
To find updates for Microsoft products that are designed for Macintosh
operating systems, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/mac/.

Why do I get this message when I have the Windows XP operating system? This
just started after many years of having no problems of using the update
feature.

What report do you get by going to start/run, to type:
WINVER

If you get an error, you probably have some bad entry in the registry, and
running a Repair setup would fix that.

How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install:

A few thoughts: Maybe you have some type of malware or malware
protection blocking access. Run a few scans, disable any unique
protection software.. Do you have a router? Look at its settings.

Great news! I guess you had to reboot before it worked.
