Ran win update for IE10, it DL'd, ran but when requested to restart I did but then reboot PC failed to boot and went into recovery and repair.
Eventually Auto recovered so system usable but Win update now shows IE10 update as completed but windows still has IE9.
I have no idea of what the error was except it said Windows cannot boot and error with recent update.

I presume the recovery went back to a restore point.
But Windows Update still shows both these updates as important and waiting to be done.
