Hello, this is my first time posting, so I apologize if this is in the wrong place or if this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere.
I have a business client that runs mostly Windows 7 Pro x64 machines, and we have a WSUS server set up to manage their updates. The client computers are set through Group Policy to automatically download updates but notify for install. However, one of the principals
at this company is claiming that no one is (or at least multiple people are not) receiving the balloon notification that tells you there are new updates available. Everything looks in order in group policy, no GPOs should be disabling the notifications, and
when I go log on to certain computers to have a look at them, the notification does come up. So it looks like it's working, but I'm not sure what to tell my client or how I should proceed, save for going to every computer, rebooting it and seeing if it shows
the notification when I log on, since that seems to be the most reliable way to get it to appear.
So, before I go and do something like that, what I want to know is, on what sort of schedule does Windows 7 pop up the new update notification? What I'm wondering is if maybe it only notifies you upon logon or something, which might explain why some people
would not see it: if they aren't logging off/shutting down/locking their PC at the end of the day, which I know some don't. However I'm not certain of this, and if Windows should be notifying you periodically no matter what, then it would seem I have some
kind of problem that needs to be resolved.
