FYI: my Windows Update error code is “Code 80072EE2 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.” I am using Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1, 64 – bit operating system. Hardware is HP Compaq Pro 6300

I’ve tried the following…
Verify internet connectivity – I can surf web sites including
http://forums.techarena.in/windows-update/254741.htm
– Still can’t update. Plus this broke the link to the drive Y: network share. That at least I can fix.
Tried the fixit from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336 - didn’t work.
Tried the fixit from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941 – didn’t work. It crashed out saying
“Troubleshooting cannot continue because an error has occurred. We’re sorry, but the program encountered an error trying to contact the server. Please try again later. [Code 80072EE2]”
Tried the fixit from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Windows-Update-error-80072ee2
it found 3 problems and claimed it fixed them. – Still can’t update.
Tried the fixit from http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_update/
– didn’t work. It crashed out saying “Troubleshooting cannot continue because an error has occurred. We’re sorry, but the program encountered an error trying to contact the server. Please try again later. [Code 80072EE2]” And that was using the
download designed to run on a disconnected computer. “MicrosoftFixit-portable.exe”
Any more suggestions?
