So a while ago (a couple of months) I was having problems due to a bad stick of ram. I didn't realize this and kept trying to get windows to install updates (got as far as sp1). It crashed a lot while doing sp1 and never finished. After a crash I would
get some windows update error (like the one above) and I would troubleshoot it for a while until it would let me install sp1 again. A combination of microsoft fixes and sfc/chkdsk usually worked.
Anyway I gave up for a while and just used windows without the newer updates. The ram got worse and I eventually replaced it. Everything on my computer is stable. Now I'm trying to fix Windows update again so I can properly install sp1 but the fixes I
used previously don't work.
sfc /scannow
Gives an error if run from windows. I got it to run by booting from a windows dvd and deleting pending.xml before running it. It says there are no problems.
chkdsk
No corruption found

Runs and says it installed successfully but doesn't fix anything.
