Windows Update / Belarc Adviser conflicting advice

Hi,

I'm not sure if this should have been posted in a different forum but my issue relates to a difference in advice from Windows Update and Belarc Adviser which I find confusing. The system is Windows 7 SP1 32 bit.

I ran Belarc Adviser mainly to get a readout of my system's component details. As well as giving me the information I wanted, the program stated the system was missing three important updates. Two of these were identical for Adobe Shockwave Flash (i.e. it was listed twice) and the remaining one was Windows Update KB3067505. I updated Shockwave Flash manually from the Adobe Download Center (the version I got was a slightly later version than that Belarc was actually suggesting). However, Windows Update KB3067505 was more problematical. Firstly Windows Update does not list it as being required. Secondly the Windows Download Center has several versions of KB3067505 for various versions of Windows that includes Windows 7 64 bit but it does not appear to include one for Windows 7 32 bit - searching for it in the WDC gives the following result: "Sorry, no results found for: Windows6.1-KB3067505-x86.msu" or similar according to the search term used.

Microsoft describe the update's purpose as follows:
"This security update resolves a vulnerability in Windows that exists in Windows Remote Procedure Call (RPC) authentication. This vulnerability could allow elevation of privilege if an attacker logs on to an affected system and runs a specially crafted application. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of the affected system. An attacker could then install programs, could view, change, or delete data, or could create new accounts with full user rights."

Any help and advice on this matter would be appreciated, thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for that.

The installer for KB3067505 downloaded OK but when I ran it it produced the message "The update is not applicable for your computer."

I presume Microsoft knows better than Belarc Adviser but wonder where my Windows 7SP1 32 bit system is different from systems that do accept the update.

Regards, Kick.
