hi all,

Sorry for the blast.

i am actually facing a strange problem , a windows security alert pops up
every 10 seconds which says
[ Warning! potential spyware operation! youe computer is making unauthorised
copies of your system and internet files.........]

This pop-up started coming yesterday and from the time this popup started i
am not able to see CONTROL PANEL in start menu and when try to go to the
properties of my Computer its again throws an error stating ["the operation
has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer,Please
contact ur system administrator"].

I hope my computer got affedted bcoz of some virus, i tried running the
virus scan and rectifying but nothing was rectified.

I even downloaded SPYBOT and cleaned up the the files suggested by SPYBOT
but all in vain , i still get those pop-ups.

If anybody can give me a worksround for this , i wud be grateful , bcoz i
dont want to format my system as i dont want to loose my installations and
configurations i have done for few products.

Anybody there who can help me out.................

You have some version of the Smitfraud trojan. Do the preparatory steps
here:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Then do the specific removal steps here:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Smitfraud_Trojan -
Smitfraud, Spyaxe, Spyfalcon

You can also check to see if there are targeted removal steps for your
malware here:
Bleeping Computer removal how-to's -
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum55.html

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at the first link above (not here, please).

Standard caveat: If the procedures look too complex - and there is no
shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Please be aware that not all local shops
are skilled at removing malware and even if they are, your computer may
be so infested that Windows will need to be clean-installed. Have all
your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop.
