When I plug in my Pocket PC device, WMDC starts up, then crashes.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks.

Unfortunately no, but I winder if this is related to the Acronis problem
by way of damage to the Vista install, a device driver issue or some
physical problem.

Did you install Vista or did it come with the machine? If you installed
it did anything appear wrong during the install, or has it since?

Have you looked for updated drivers for you motherboard? Updated drivers
are not always better, but unless it's a very new machine it is possible
that the CD or whatever that came with it has some fault in the device
drivers that is showing up accessing peripherals.

I'm able to sync another Pocket PC device (Windows Mobile 2003) with no
problems. WMDC crashes when I use my Windows Mobile 5 device.

And I'm not the only one having problems with Acronis True Image. Take a
look at the reviews on this site:

Well I don't have any similar portable devices to test anything with so
I'm afraid I probably can't help much there but did wonder if there's
"Something" hiding the fact that it's broken because of something else
that went wrong earlier... Seemed like your two major problems might be
connected is all.

I wasn't doubting your experiences with Acronis, just seems very out of
character for them.

There were problems just after 64 bit Vista was released and I got some
very thorough tech support that resulted in a new driver that fixed the
problem. I've used a similar tool from 7tools - I won't use Norton
products because the annoyed me years ago and I said enough was enough,
but if you buy another product and it turns out to be hardware or driver
issues then you'd simply be wasting money, which is why I suggested you
persist with their suggestions. One thing, last I looked it was easy to
download the wrong bits from their site because the instructions weren't
all that clear, are you 100% sure you downloaded the right 64 bit
version of everything, because I was and still got it wrong once :)

Have you downloaded the latest version from the M$ download site?
I had to before Vista recognized my HP.
Windows update doesn't appear to download it.
