Windows Mobile 6.1 Update breaks sync

Hi,

I had an "optional update" to install Windows Mobile 6.1 and "Microsoft
Corporation - Networking - Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter. "

That was a mistake. First, it wouldn't sync. "ActivSync has a problem
with the desktop." Then, it deleted all the contacts, tasks, files, etc.
from my PPC-6800. I rebooted. I reset. I deleted the sync partnership and
added it back.

Then, the system reported "Pocket Quicken 2.5 needs attention". ? ? ? ?
Could not find how or where it needed attention. So, I unchecked the
"Quicken" sync block. Now, the sync center reports something like "mobile
center encountered a problem with the desktop."

What gives? I did a system restore about 3 days before this update . .
.. the "Microsoft Corporation - Networking - Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote
Adapter" is still installed as an update . . . I thought System Restore was
supposed to remove all that?

Now, it seems to start to synch, and it just hangs.

I thought if you had Windows update failures, you had free support?
What do I do now? I can't live without my pda sync'd . . . even my husband
calls it my "brain".

update"

There is free support for Windows Update. See
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?LN=en-us&gprid=6527&x=7&y=16

Hal, Thank you.

I had seen that page before, and always got to it by going through the
"Update Help".

Suddenly I get nothing but the paid-for options.

<sigh> MS is really going down the drain.

If for some reason free support isn't going to cut it (e.g., it turns out not
to be a Windows Update problem) let me know.

Thanks, Hal, I will.

First contact isn't so hot. "I understand you have a problem with Windows
Mobile 6. This is OEM . . . " <sigh> I sent bank a "You understand wrong
.. . ."

On the bright side, my 64-bit Vista Ultimate seems to be synching all but
the Pocket Quicken (the only non-MS). On the not-so-bright side, my 32-bit
Vista Ultimate seems to be hosed . . . I uninstalled WMDC, downloaded a
fresh copy from MS, and the system died (rebooted) right in the middle of the
install. The last time an update FUBAR'd so bad, I had to rebuild the entire
system. Unfortunately, I am on a trip for 4 weeks . . . AARRRGGHHH!!

Okay, I kept backing up restore, and finally at around the 20th of March,
after I deleted all the partnerships, etc., my PDA workds again.

Unfortunately, my MS Math 3.0 and my MS Streets & Trips 2008 now keep asking
for me to reactivate them. And I do. Every time I try to use them after I
have restarted.

<sigh> I'm opening new tickets on that, now.
