I uploaded a DVD into my hard drive and I don't know how to get it to play
though Windows Media Player. I think this DVD which I had converted from VHS
to DVD isn't very compatible but I don't know much about Windows Media
Player.

Not sure what you mean by "I uploaded a DVD".

Not all versions of Vista come with the necessary MPEG-2 codec
necessary to play DVD's. If not, you'll need to install some third
party software that does include some MPEG-2 codec.

"I uploaded a DVD". Means you put a DVD with a movie and sound on it and
put it in your DVD player and open it and copy all the data and then copy it
to your hard drive like D:\movie\123

that is called copying files, not uploading.. uploading usually refers to
uploading content to a remote server that's online...

Cyberlink powerdvd Is the best non freeware dvd player..

as I said you can try gomplayer that's free

windows media player can play dvds from dvd disks (not hard disks) as long
as you have vista home premium or ultimate...
or if you install a third party decoder (that usually is not free) then all
vista versions can play dvds from dvd disks..
