My Vista WMP has stoped working. When I try to open it nothing happens. Even
though it is the default audio disc player it will not open to play when a
disc is inserted. Yet my system indicates it is installed and I have the
icons. When I tried downloading WMP 11 for xp (on the Vista page) I was told
I already have a more advanced version. Very annoying. Where have I gone
wrong? As far as I can tell none of the other brand players have been given
permission to take over.
thanks,

Bostonblakie - I have the same symptoms. But mine does not show when I click
on "Computer". If yours doesn't show there it's probably a warranty matter.

Thanks...........sorry I had to rate this reply as "not solving" my problem
but I appreciate your comments.

I have the same problem. Windows Media Player that came with my Vista
will not open at all (Toshiba). It did work when the PC was new in May
2007.
I did a system restore to remove the 8-16-07 automatic update. This
did not work either. I have seen a few other similar posts on other
sites. Microsoft seems to be oblivious to this.
Has anyone else had this problem or found a solution?
Probably something we're not geek enough to figure out. I have noticed that
WMP can still be chosen by some received applications to play file content. I
wish MS would clarify the issue. The question is, why can't I start WMP?
