Windows Media Player gone nuts ?

Alan

When my laptop had been on for a while and when I was not doing
anything else, my hard disk light was blinking away. So, I checked
Task Manager. Windows Media Player, which I had not used at all and
was not open, was using 40-50% of my CPU, presumedly writing something
to the disk.

Has anyone seen this problem? Thanks, Alan

Disable WMP from startup:

1.*Start>>Search>>Services.msc*,stop and disable service *Windows Media
Player Network Sharing Service *
2.Navigate to key:

*HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences\HME*

create DWORD phrase *DisableDiscovery* and set the value to *2*
+restart
