Windows Media Player 11 will not display

The Gotee

Hello. I cannot get my Media Player to open. I have tried to re-install but
the MS web site keeps telling me that my version is newer, and cannot be
replaced or repaired with an older version. I am thinking, "DUH!" So, now it
tells me that the file wmploc.dll has a version number of 11.0.6000.6336
where 11.0.6000.6324 was expected. It then says that Windows Media Player was
not installed correctly and needs to be reinstalled. Well, duh again because
I already tried that, but my Media Player is integrated into Vista and there
is no way it can be re-installed. I already tried to re-install the operating
system, but no luck. HELP!!! Dell's suggestion was to retore the system, but
the system is not even 4 months old. Why should have to restore it every
other week to get the media player to work? I have restored several times,
and that fixed it, but only temporarily. Now it won't open at all. Thanks in

1) You're correct. WMP is integrated into Vista. You can't reinstall it.
2) Check in Event Viewer and see if you can find a specific WMP error with a
number and if you do paste it up here.
3) Have you added any special media applications that use WMP--TV
applications, etc. which can sometimes create problems?

Instead of reinstalling WMP your fixing the problem is often in taking
measures to resolve a specific error. Many are listed with methods to fix
here --Use the left pane under WMP:

Dell usually provides the OS on DVD. Put it in your drive, and run "sfc
/scannow", less the quotes, either from a command prompt or the run line.
Since it's part of the OS, it should be repaired.

the Command

unregmp2.exe /SwapTo:32

fixed my problem.
