Windows Media Center does not recognize my DVDs

When I insert a DVD into my CD drive (I have an Acer Notebook) my computer
makes a noise as if it's trying to read the DVD, but Windows Media Center
says "Insert a disc and try again".

It used to read DVDs fine up until a week ago. I'm not sure what could be
causing this.

Any ideas?

Umm, your DVD drive is unable to read DVDs... all DVDs or just 1 DVD? Try
CDs? Do they work?

install any new software on your system? If so you could try System Restore
and roll your system back a few days, see if that helps.

Talk to Acer about service. If it's less than a year old your hardware is
covered under warranty.

Places like Geek Squad will take a look for nothing, diagnostics are $59 and
software repair is $140
