Windows Mail Newsgroups Versus Thunderbird

When trying to post to newsgroups, such as this one, with a graphic attachment such as a .GIF file, Windows Mail is incapable to post. Thunderbird posts it like a champ.

I'm running Vista Ultimate.

How come?
Thanks.

You can attach files with any newsgroup post in Windows Mail. However,
graphics can only be inserted into the message itself if you use rich text
(HTML) formatting. You find this option in the Format menu.

Keep in mind that plain text is the preferred format of the Usenet
(newsgroups). It is customary to upload images and screenshots to a web
service like ImageShack, and then provide a link to the image in your
posting.

I just tried this problem same results, Windows Mail seems unable to post to *this*or any other newsgroup with a graphics image, even with rich text turned on and confirming that I wanted to post a Rich Text/HTML message to the newsgroup.

Whereas Thunderbird has no such problem.

Take a look at the HTML settings in Tools menu > Options > Send tab. Images
should be allowed.

Also, check your security software settings. Email scanners that integrate
with Outlook/Windows Mail can sometimes cause message courruption. They
really are not all that important, try to turn off outgoing scans if you
can.

Everything checked properly. Again, I cannot send images with Windows Mail, but can do with Thunderbird.

I am beginning to run out of ideas, but take a look at the newsgroup
accounts settings. In the advanced options, make sure large messages are not
broken up and formatting is ignored.

Just out of curiousity, what security software do you use? I still have a
wee suspicion it may be the culprit.

Then by all means use Thunderbird.

Frankly, most of us don't like images in Usenet anyway.

I use only the Windows Firewall itself, and do my virus scanning on an entirely external and manual basis. I tried turning it off as well, same results...

And, by the way, the newsgroups sittings you mentioned? Already set as indicated.

I'm beginning to suspect as much! :-)

Sorry mr. Greenberg, I have to fold. I have tested these settings on two
different Vista machines now, and they both work. Unless you have created
some kind of policy that blocks Windows Mail in Windows Firewall (and I do
not think you have), I can not see why it does not work.

Feel free to top post a reply in this newsgroup, and post your question in
microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail for greater exposure. Somebody else may
have a solution. For now, you must go with Thunderbird. It is a great email
client btw.

Exactly! For once, I'm actually happy an MS product can't do something!
There is no darn reason to post images in Usenet!

Tell that to t-4-2.

He's fixated on Snagit and can't wait to post a URL to another
screenshot (that he couldn't get into his message).

You shouldn't be posting attachments to a TEXT group in the first place....
