Hi,

I've been having the same problem with my work computer for over 2 years and no one in technical support seems to know the cause. What happens is the following:

-In windows explorer some or all of the icons will change into various things including: trees, question marks, recycling bins, notebooks, telephones, hammers, stars, etc.

-I cannot open anything through windows explorer. Sometimes the pathname will change to to start with C or sometimes it'll be blank. If I try to open something it will say, "There is not enough free memory to run this program. Quit one or more programs, and then try again." People have remoted into my computer and verifyed that there IS still free memory. Also, even if I close every program, this message will still happen. Other times when I click in windows explorer, nothing will happen.

-Sometimes when I go to the start>programs all of my programs will be there but when I try to open them I get the message above. Other times some will disappear. Other times all will disappear and all that I will see are three lines that all say: (empty)

-If I already have a program open, I can open more files through it. So if Excel is already open I can click File>Open and open any file that way, but if Excel was not open and I tried to open it, I would be told there is not enough memory.

-On the bottom toolbar, often times not every thing that is open will appear. I can get to files by using Alt+tab though.

If I restart my computer it will work fine, however it'll happen again either the next day or a few hours later. There have been times where it's gone a week or more without this happening, but it's usually not that long. My company has given my four different PCs and the same thing happens with each one. Do you have any idea what could be causing this?

Thank you.
