I had properly shut down my slow and old toshiba satellite yesterday
night and when I powered it up the next morning, a screen said including
the words "Windows did not start successfully" showed up. There is a
list for me to choose from Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe
Mode with Command Prompt, Last know good configuration, and Start
Windows Normally, all with a countdown timer. Every option I choose, my
laptop freezes and doesnt go anywhere, even when I dont do anything and
let the timer run down, it still freezes. One time i had let the latop
sit there for 20 mins to see if it would do anything because it is a
slow cpu with a celeron M processor. I can't get anywhere, it always
freezes up and I am afraid i lost and cant get to my storage data. Would
somebody please give me support, this is a scary problem.

The key point at this time is to proceed slowly and don't make the
classic mistake of randomly trying things to get it working. The 1st
thing to do is determine what is the exact fault. The list of possible
items include a defective registry hive, disk problems or a recent
update ( Driver or startup app ) that is causing boot failure. If your
data isn't backed up, then your goal is just to retrieve that. If you're
not technically skilled you may want to take the notebook to a shop
and have it backed up. Normally, I'd suggest starting with a Chkdsk
on the drive, but that is risky if the data isn't backed up. Since none
of the Safe Mode options work you're really limited in what you can
do on your own to resolve it.

Whatever you do stay away from Geek Squad, FireDog and all the
other "Fast Food" PC Repair operations.
