I cannot get the Windows Defender icon to display
in the Quick Launch Area (where time displays).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Richard

That isn't the quick launch, that is the system tray.
Quick Launch is an area of the task bar that you can add/remove icons
to/from for quick starting.
System tray shows running programs that may not show in the taskbar and
allows you to control them by clicking the systray icon rather than taking
up space in the taskbar.
I don't think Defender is designed to show there unless there is a scan or
update running.

Thank you both for your replies. I actually found the answer.
There is an optional setting which will make it display at all
times in the system tray area.
