Can anyone help. Laptop blue screen message STOP: 0x000000ED (0x84375c30,
0xC000009c, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) Message says restart and press F8 to
start in safe mode but nothing happens.

Have you added any new hardware or drivers before your machine went
pear shaped?

Your HDD has a problem and you need to run the diagnostic tools from the HDD
manufacturer CD or download from their website for your HDD specs.
Try to perform a check disk by using the recovery console, you will need the
installation media (XP CD):
Try to run the chkdsk /r from the Recovery console and also the Fixmbr:
