I have been all over this board looking for solutions to this problem. I want
to change themes from windows xp to classic but get this error message the
theme could not load unspecified error. I have tried several fixes I have
found on these boards but none works. I know the window classic.theme file is
there b/c I logged on as guest and changed the theme to classic . I'm lost
any help please. PS. i've tried downloading restore files from
kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm with no luck there also. Larry

Create a new Profile with the User Accounts app in Control Panel. Import your
old profile data to the new account.

If no help, try a Repair setup of XP

Thanks mark for your help I didn't want to go that way but I guess I have to.
I can't reinstall xp b/c I have an invalid copy of xp. I made a new account
inported all my info, and now my e-mail client won't connect (Incredimail)
What else can go wrong with this crazy thing.

This won't be the last problem you have with XP. You need to acquire a
'valid copy'. Whatever it might cost is cheap at the price for the option to
repair the system.

Thanks again for the help, I deleted the new account, then did a restore
files back two days and got my e-mail back but lost the classic theme. I
guess I can live without it. Again Thanks for your time Larry
