windows 8 user can no longer login to the sbs 2003 domain.

System comprises of windows 8 pro logging on to a windows sbs 2003 domain. This was working until this morning when after a reboot the user trying to logon only sees the little dotted circle animation. There doesn't appear to be any login happening. Any
ideas on where to start diagnosing and fixing this?
