HI

I've just unpacked a brand new Acer Aspire . I understand it's preloaded with windows 8 64 bit. The windows store said I could upgrade to windows 8.1 but that I should update windows 8 first. I changed settings to manually update and searched for windows 8 updates of which there were just over 100. I asked it to install them but about 87failed. I could get to the desktop and look at update history - clearly said the updates failed. Tried the windows update trouble shooter which said it fixed a problem with administrator rights and I tried again. Same result - failed to download anything, just stuck on downloading screen. Searched on your forums and have now tried a system restore to before the update effort at all. I'm a bit nervous of what to do next though - seems like my brand new computer is screwed up within 4 hours! Grateful for advice...

System has i5 processer, 500GB hard disk.. Seems to have McAfee on it too - haven't disabled since that would be on for automatic updates. Only thing I'd done on it prior to trying updates was to set up my windows account (I already have one and so it was just a matter of putting it on this computer which worked)

Please see 'reply' below for more info - didn't seem to have the option of editing this post until I'd posted a reply...?
