Windows 7 update not running - need to repair, how to do it?

nI cannot run Windows Update in Windows 7. After trying to check for update message turns red and addtional message says: Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.&lt- this
is the message when I try to run update
