This is directed to the kind person who sent me a series of questions regarding my install loop problem.
1a. Purchased early part of 2010.
1b. Windows 7 came preinstalled (Dell computer without backup disks).
2. I installed Avast (free version) in mid-2012.
3, 4a, 4b. McAffee free trial came preinstalled. I had a current license for Norton, however, and installed that without uninstalling the McAffee free trial. I successfully uninstalled (according to Windows) the Norton when the subscription expired in
2012 and installed the Avast. Not sure exactly when I uninstalled the McAffee free trial, but it is no longer in my programs.
5. All listed updates have been installed except KB2809289.
6. I uninstalled Java when I read of the security issues and have not installed Java 7......is it safe?
7. Yes
8. Yes I have Chrome installed and mostly use that rather than IE (it seems faster and more intuitive to me, just my opinion)
I am not in the habit of using registry cleaners. I did, once use PCDoctor or some similar program, but when it wanted to change my registry I refused........wasn't familiar with the product and didn't know if it was safe.
Hope you can help me with my loop problem which is still ongoing.
