Windows 7 Fonts blurry, fuzzy, almost a shadow effect to them

I have read over and over again about 1280x1024 resolution, but this is absolutely not an option. Machines run two applications that are designed specifically for 1024x768, screen scraping, font size, tabs, etc... the list is too long.

This is happening on a variety of video card platforms, NVidia 8400GS, onboard Intel HD2000, ATI 6350, and another NVidia card that I neglected to get the model of but is considerably older than the 8400GS.

Clear type has no affect.

Disabling hardware virtualization in the BIOS made a small improvement.

Disabling Aero features didn't help.

Yes it does look fine on 1280x1024, but again, this will not work for these particular applications. They at least understand that a large portion of the population needs some sort of eye wear for their vision and have not moved to the higher resolution.

Using 1280x1024 will work for one, but require a massive rewrite of all the screen scraping functions. The other application is not supported at all in a resolution other than 1024x768, and will work to an extent (by increasing fonts to 125%), but most of the options that are necessary aren't visible and there is no way to make them appear. I don't understand how increasing screen real estate would make you be able to see less, but again it's written specifically for the lower resolution.

I am currently downgrading these machines BACK to Windows XP so the users don't have headaches from looking at a screen. I find it mind boggling that the OS basically screams at you to change the resolution to 1280x1024, and if you don't, it gives you the finger and makes the screen unbearable to look at.

Everything that shows on the screen is blurry / fuzzy. Outlook, IE, Excel, etc..., not just the aforementioned applications.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
