We are running windows server 2003 standard SP1 with 2 x 146gb SATA mirrored
disks. Both the system C: and data D: paritions are mirrored over both
disks, which was done using the disk management. The primary drive, has now
failed. The server won't even start with this disk plugged in.

Can anyone tell me the procedure to boot off the second hard disk so I can
get the server back on.

Any help greatly appreciated.

HEllo,

on your boot.ini you would have two entries, one for each disk.
You just have to choose it at boot prompt

Hi and thanks for your reply.

How can I edit the boot.ini if I can't boot the server with the faulty hard
disk ? I take it the second hard disk has the boot.ini also. How do I edit
this? Is this something I can do booting from the Windows 2003 Server CD?

THanks

Hello,

you can boot from the CD to get the recovery console to edit the file.
bootcfg command may help
