Window Update - Downloaded, but want to review again before installing

I have a new Windows XP Pro desktop and was prompted a couple
of times for update. The first time was for KB 898461, which
I installed, then later on I was prompted for more. I downloaded
them expecting to be prompted again as to whether I want to
install, but I haven't been prompted (via the taskbar Update icon).

The only thing I see is when I shutdown, there's a message
indicating that there are updates to install.

Is there a way I can get it so that I can see what updates
are pending and then choose whether I want to install them
or not?

Or is there a way to undo the downloads and be prompted
to download again?

TIA

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.

So I did
net stop wuauserv
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\wups2.dll
net start wuauserv

What should happen? Will I get prompted for download again?

Just follow the instructions you may need to try Methods 1 and 2. If it
fixes the problem, fine. (Since you neglected to quote all of my reply, I
have no idea what the problem was.)

Method 2 didn't work either. Any other idea?

Re: Window Update - Downloaded, but want to review again before in

All updates that have downloaded are kept temporarily in the
softwaredistribution/downloads folder. You can manually install from there if
you need to.

To find out what has downloaded, you can go to the website and check what's
available and if they indicate 0 as a size download, then they are already
downloaded. Alternatively view the history to see if there are any error
codes etc.

Further clues may be obtained from the windowsupdate.log.

WRT "neglecting to quote", because you top-quote AND you include
"signature cut line" ('-- '), my posting was removed along with
your signature. I would suggest that, like your message that
this is replying to, you either not include the "signature cut line"
or bottom post. See:

Thanks.

See TaurArian's reply.

Check for associated errors in your WindowsUpdate.log
(C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log).

Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and open Update History to see what
updates installed or failed to install with an error code. Do a CUSTOM scan
for updates and see which ones are offered any that indicate a download
size of 0KB have already been downloaded.
